Mr. Ogden is an honors graduate of Louisiana State University where he graduated second in the College of Business and served as Student Body President. He holds a Juris Doctorate Degree and is an Order of the Coif graduate of Tulane Law School where he was elected to The Law Review. He has been a resident of New Orleans for over 50 years.

Real Estate

Roger Ogden has been a leader in the development, acquisition, and redevelopment of more than $2 billion in commercial real estate, including shopping centers, hotels, office properties, and public pro bono projects.

Ogden is co-founder of Stirling Properties where for 20 years he led the company as principal and CEO in the development and acquisition of a $200 million portfolio of shopping centers.  He is a past trustee of the International Council of Shopping Centers and served as Vice President for the Southern Division.


In 1996, Ogden developed the Omni Riverfront Hotel, a project that pioneered development on Convention Center Boulevard in New Orleans. The project has been widely recognized for its unique design, marrying the historic architecture of the Warehouse District with the contemporary Riverfront.

In 2000, Ogden acquired and began the redevelopment of the Shops at Canal Place, a 260,000 square foot five-star mall located in downtown New Orleans at the foot of famed Canal Street at the Mississippi River and featuring Saks Fifth Avenue, Tiffany, Michael Kors, Armani, Brooks Brothers, Anthropologie, the luxury moviehouse and restaurant The Theatres at Canal Place, and others, with an attached 1,650 space commercial garage.

In 2003, Ogden completed the $75 million Loews New Orleans Hotel on Poydras Street and the restoration of the adjacent Piazza d'Italia. This project involved the creative adaptive repurposing of the former Lykes Steamship Office Building.

Ogden is a principal in the partnership that acquired the Omni Royal Orleans Hotel in the historic French Quarter in 2008. The hotel has received the four-diamond luxury award for the past 31 years and a full renovation was completed on the property in 2013.

Roger Ogden contributes to many economic development organizations serving New Orleans and Louisiana. Currently serving on the New Orleans Aviation Board, Ogden has helped lead the design and construction of a new $1 billion terminal building for Louis Armstrong International Airport. Ogden was the founding chairman of the SoLa Super Region Committee, a collaboration between GNO Inc. and the Baton Rouge Area Chamber that unites the Southeast Louisiana region in economic development initiatives. Additionally, Ogden serves on the boards of GNO Inc., Business Council of New Orleans, BioDistrict New Orleans, and statewide Committee of 100.

With a grand vision for a premier showcase of Southern art, Ogden donated over 1,000 pieces of art from his personal collection to form the initial holdings for the Ogden Museum of Southern Art. Goldring Hall, the first phase of the Ogden Museum, opened in August 2003. The museum has led to a renaissance of this historically important area of New Orleans and is nationally recognized as the largest and most comprehensive collection of Southern art. Ogden is on the Board of Trustees of the Ogden Museum and remains an active collector of Southern art. In addition, Ogden has served on the Board of Directors of the Contemporary Arts Center, the New Orleans Museum of Art, the New Orleans Ballet, the Louisiana State Museum, LSU Museum of Art, the New Orleans Center for the Creative Arts (NOCCA), and the Louisiana Governor's Mansion Foundation.

In 2014, Roger Houston Ogden funded the endowment of the LSU Roger Hadfield Honors College to honor his father and son with the express mission of keeping and attracting “the very best and brightest” to Louisiana and LSU. With approximately 2,000 students, the Ogden Honors College is also a residential college located at the heart of LSU’s historic campus. Additionally the Ogden Leaders Program annually recognizes up to five outstanding Honors undergraduates with grants awarded for a self-directed program of study, research, or humanitarian effort.

Ogden has been active in many civic organizations, including past Chairman of the LSU Board of Supervisors, past chairman of the Audubon Park Commission, and the chairman of the boards of many other public and non-profit organizations including the International House of Blues Foundation Board and the LSU Stanley S. Scott Cancer Center Board of Advisors and Co-Chairman of the LSU/Tulane Cancer Consortium Board of Advisors.

Ogden is currently a member of the LSU Foundation Board and the executive committee of the LSU Flagship Coalition, a group of statewide leaders supporting LSU’s flagship agenda of excellence.

In connection with his civic work, he has donated his time and talents as the coordinating developer of the Audubon Aquarium of the Americas and Woldenberg Park, a world-renowned $100 million riverfront park, and the $30 million restoration of the historic Louisiana Supreme Court Building, located in the heart of New Orleans' French Quarter. He chaired the design and construction committee for the development of the new $60 million E.J. Ourso business school complex at LSU.
